Impact

The impact of our history curriculum is that pupils develop a secure and increasingly sophisticated understanding of the past and how it has shaped the world they live in today. They leave our school with a strong sense of chronology, an understanding of key historical concepts such as change, continuity, cause and consequence, and the ability to think critically about historical evidence.

Pupils are confident in using historical vocabulary and can ask thoughtful questions about the past. They are able to make connections between different periods and societies, recognise similarities and differences and explain why events and individuals are significant. Through enquiry-based learning, pupils learn to evaluate sources, consider different perspectives and understand that history can be interpreted in different ways.

Our history curriculum fosters curiosity, respect and a sense of identity. Pupils show enthusiasm for learning about the past and appreciate how local, national and global history has influenced modern Britain and the wider world. As a result, pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education, with the knowledge, skills and curiosity needed to continue their study of history and to understand their place in society.
