    Curriculum Intent

At our school, Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education plays a vital role in supporting pupils’ personal development, wellbeing and preparation for life in modern Britain. Rooted in our Christian values and motto to Belong, Believe and Blossom, our PSHE curriculum aims to nurture confident, resilient and respectful individuals who feel valued and supported.

Our intent is to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to:

    • build positive relationships

    • understand and manage their emotions

    • make informed and responsible choices

    • stay safe, healthy and well

    • contribute positively to their school and wider community

The PSHE curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and carefully sequenced, ensuring progression from EYFS to Year 6 and meeting statutory requirements for Relationships Education and Health Education.

    Implementation

PSHE is taught weekly across the school using the Jigsaw PSHE Scheme of Work, which provides a progressive, spiral curriculum. Learning is organised into six half-termly themes that are revisited each year, allowing pupils to build on prior learning and deepen their understanding over time.

Teaching takes place in a safe, supportive and respectful environment, with clear ground rules that encourage discussion, reflection and pupil voice. Lessons use a range of approaches including discussion, real-life scenarios, role play, stories and reflection activities.

From Year 1 onwards, pupils record their learning in a PSHE journal, which moves with them through the school and supports continuity and progression. Teaching is adapted to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, and reflects the school’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

PSHE is reinforced through assemblies, school council, behaviour expectations and wider school life, ensuring learning is meaningful and connected to pupils’ lived experiences.

    Impact

The impact of our PSHE curriculum is that pupils leave our school as confident, caring and responsible individuals who are well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond primary school.

    Pupils demonstrate:

    • positive attitudes to learning and behaviour

    • strong relationships built on respect and empathy

    • increased self-confidence and emotional awareness

    • understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe

    • awareness of their rights and responsibilities as members of a community

The effectiveness of PSHE is evident through pupil voice, behaviour, engagement, wellbeing and the respectful culture of the school. Our PSHE provision meets the expectations of the 2025 Ofsted framework, supporting pupils’ personal development and readiness for life in modern Britain.
